Products & Applications

One material. Multiple high-value uses.

Georgia Wood Char biochar is produced for commercial performance — water retention, nutrient holding, soil structure, filtration, and durable carbon removal.

What you receive

Biochar produced slowly with little to no oxygen. The result is a stable, porous carbon material that can be used as a soil amendment or as a filtration media. During production, carbon is sequestered instead of released. Particle size options are available for different applications (chart of four sizes and recommended uses available on request).

Water holding

Holds up to 5.6 times its weight in water that remains root-available, with almost no evaporative loss from the biochar itself.

Nutrient attraction

Attracts and holds nutrient molecules that become available to plant roots over time — supporting reduced fertilizer programs.

Structural integrity

Because we do not quench, the cellular structure is maintained. That architecture is what enables water storage, nutrient binding, and microbial habitat.

Long-term stability

One-time application characteristics. The material does not dissipate or lose its core water- and nutrient-gathering properties under normal use.

Lower costs. Better playing surfaces.

Premium biochar turf blends are used to reduce irrigation demand, cut fertilizer inputs, and improve density and resilience. Documented results include up to 50% water savings and significant biomass increases in controlled tests.

  • Up to 50% water savings; one California course example moved from 3 waterings/week to 1
  • Reduced fertilizer / nutrient requirements (over 50% in some cases)
  • One-time application — stable long-term
  • Lab tests showed 110% biomass increase at 90 days
  • Supports denser, more resilient turf

Craggy surfaces in the root zone

Particles are typically top-dressed and watered into the profile. Their high-surface-area structure chambers water and nutrients where roots can access them between irrigation cycles.

Soil that holds more and feeds better

High-quality biochar improves aeration, provides habitat for beneficial microbes, and increases the soil’s capacity to hold water and nutrients. Independent trials have recorded substantial yield responses, including a reported ~300% increase in a spinach trial.

Water efficiency

Greater plant-available water between rainfall or irrigation events — valuable in drought-prone or high-cost water regions.

Nutrient efficiency

Reduced leaching and better retention of applied nutrients, supporting lower input programs over time.

Soil biology

Porous structure creates protected niches for microbial communities that support plant health.

Capture nutrients and heavy metals

Biochar’s surface chemistry and structure make it effective at binding phosphorus, nitrogen forms, and heavy metals from water. Independent lab summaries show very high adsorption percentages for key nutrients. Material can be used in filters or as a soil/filter media amendment.

Nutrient Form Starting (mg/L) % Adsorbed
Phosphorus Non-soluble P 27 99.9%
Phosphorus P 27 99.8%
Phosphate PO4-P 284 86.6%
Ammonia N 1.1 89.7%
Nitrate NO3-N 52 64.3%
